Google Adwords

Tutorial para crear tu Gravatar by Prophet on May 17th, 2007 ¿ Que es Gravatar ?
BloggerTips wrote a very nice tutorial on how to make a tag cloud for Movable Type blogs.
1. Create a new page for your site for the tag cloud. Click here for instructions on how to do this. I called our tag cloud page tagcloud.html but it doesn’t matter what it’s called (and doesn’t have to have a .php extension).
2. Clear the body of the new page.
3. Paste the following code into the body of your tag cloud page (where you’d like the tag cloud to appear) -change “(” for “<”:
(!– Start Tag Cloud –)
(p id=”cloud”> (/p)
(!– End Tag Cloud –)
This publishes your site’s categories in a row that wraps whenever it reaches the end of the line. Each category is hyperlinked to the appropriate archive page.
The div id=â€cloud†tag allows you to format the tag cloud using CSS.
class=â€tag< $MTCategoryCount$> adds a CSS class to each tag that’s unique to the number of posts in each category. When published, this converts to class=â€tag4″ for a category with four posts.
Okay, that covers the work on the page. Now for a few additions to your site’s style sheet. If you save and republish the page, it should build your tag cloud with no formatting.
4. Go to Templates and open styles-site.css.
5. Add the following code to the bottom of the style sheet:
/* Start Tag Cloud CSS */
#cloud {padding:1px; line-height:30px;text-align:center;}
#cloud a {text-decoration:none;padding:0px;}
a.tag28, a.tag29, a.tag30 {
font-size:38px;
font-weight:900;
}
/* End Tag Cloud CSS */
6. Save and rebuild your style sheet.
7. Refresh your tag cloud. It should now be formatted.
The CSS tags listed above gradually increase the font site, (and some include an increase in font weight as well) as the number associated with posts in a category increases. The font sizes and post numbers associated with different sizes can be adjusted here, changing the look of your tag cloud. It may take some experimentation to find a format that is suitable for the number of categories used in your site, and your post volumes to various categories.
8. Link to your tag cloud from your site’s templates.
9. Remove the categories section from you site’s templates.
10. Done.

Yes, I know Kawasaki said 10 and delivered 14. But he’s right, on all counts. Read his article if you want to understand exactly why these things are bad for your readers and you.
And don’t just wave your hands and say “I don’t understand that much about tech to be fixin’ these thingsâ€: get the fark off your comfort zone and do whatever it takes to start learning how to fix what’s wrong. Which is usually no more than a clever reading list of information that already exists on the Web. Just fucking Google it.
Oh, if you’re blogging, then you better pay attention to one more thing: you need to link. I’ve always said so — it’s self evident — and now Scoble is voicing his support for linking as well. Oh, and linking to outside blog posts is a great way to gain pingback links, in case you didn’t know.

Since there are already plenty of great articles out there exploring how to build good links, I’m using this series of articles to dive into why links matter when it comes to search engine optimization. The thinking here is that by understanding why the search engines value the things that they do, you’ll be better able to put link building techniques into place that will serve your site both now and in the future, even after the search engines update their algorithms further.In part one of the series, I explored the idea of links as the threads of the web, helping both search engines and humans find their way from one site to another. In part two I’ll explain why search engines look to links as part of their attempt to replicate human judgement so that they can determine the content of the web site or web page.
Links Give Your Site Context
As I explained in part one of the series, search engines spiders are just computer programs. They aren’t capable of thought. While they are programmed by human beings, they’re still just computers operating on letter and numbers and patterns. As such, they have to look for patterns to find out how to make judgements about that web site. That includes figuring out the content or context of a web page.
While most people understand that search engines are able to note patterns in terms of the keywords and keyword phrases that appear on a web page, it’s also important to understand that search engines look for patterns in the text of the links to your site.
Yes, some links simply read “click here” or “more” or some other random set of words, but most of the time, link text is used to describe the page that is being linked to. Human beings observed that pattern of action, so they programmed search engines to look for it as well. That’s why search engines rely on link text to determine the content of your web page.
Basically, incoming links help the search engine to understand how other sites view your site. Chances are good that if 80% of the links to your site include the phrase blue widget, your site probably talks about, sells or otherwise is related to blue widgets.
Another thing to consider is that search engines are beginning to move toward latent semantic indexing. (Simply put, that means that they would be programmed to understand that an automobile and a car are the same thing, or that a Volvo, a Honda and a BMW are all types of cars.)
How does this relate to link building? Well, since different web sites will use different link text when pointing to a site, semantic indexing would allow a search engine to look at the wide variety of incoming links text and to then categorize the site as being about a particular topic.
For example, a site that sells used cars might have incoming links that used phrases like “pre-owned Lexus” “Certified used GMC truck,” “low-mileage Honda” and “late model miata.”
When considering how links give a site context, it’s important not to forget about your own internal links that are used for navigation. Your navigational links will help the search engines to understand how YOU see your site, so paying attention to the link text that you use internally is just as important as paying attention to the link text of any incoming links that you build.
In part three of the series, I’ll explain how search engines use links to validate a site’s authority and to determine how well respected it is by Internet users.

While pretty much anyone that knows anything about search engine optimization can tell you that links are important (ok, REALLY important), most of the small business owners that I’ve spoken with really don’t have any idea of why links matter beyond the simple concept that links will help them rank better.Since it’s hard to build a good link strategy if you don’t actually understand why links are so important, I thought that I’d put together a new series of articles that examines why links matter so much to both search engines and to Internet users.
Today, in part one, I’ll explore the idea of links as the threads of the web, helping both search engines and humans find their way from one site to another.
Links Are the Internet’s Road Map
Perhaps the single most important reason why links matter is because they act as a sort of road map to the content on the Internet. When Tim Berners-Lee first created HTML back in the early 90’s, he included the concept of hyperlinks as a way of getting quickly from one point of data to another. Sometimes that meant a jump within a document and sometimes it meant a jump from one page to another. These days, we simply call them links and we use them to describe the clickable text that takes a web site user to a new set of content.
Back in the early days of the World Wide Web, links were the ONLY way to get from point A to point B. There was a program called Archie that would search through the files on a particular server, but there was no way to run a search of all of the content that was available via the Internet. Since there were no search engines you had to rely on people to make note of good sites and to add links to them to their own sites. Once the first major search engine with a “crawler” or “spider” popped up in 1994 it didn’t take long before search engine programmers realized that following links was the most efficient way to find and index new sites.
The End of Search Engine Submissions
By the early part of the 2000’s search engine submission was rapidly becoming a thing of the past. Search engines were now programming spiders that were skilled enough to follow all links which made submitting a site fairly useless. Most search engines closed down their submission forms or began to ignore them.
They were beginning to realize that a site with no incoming links probably didn’t contain valuable enough content to be worth indexing anyway. These days links are essential to making sure that the popular search engines will both find and index all of the pages on your web site. In fact, without links, your site might as well not even exist as far as organic search is concerned.
Why Do Search Engines Need to Follow Links?
It’s important to understand that search engine spiders simply do what they are programmed to do. They aren’t capable of thought or independent action. That means that search engines are unable to visit sites by typing in URLs that they’ve seen on television or by running searches for whatever query strike their fancy. As such, they must rely on links to help them find their way from one site to another.
This is why a good link building campaign will help your site get indexed more quickly and more completely by the major search engines. Spider-based search engines such as Google, Yahoo! and MSN find new sites to include in their indexes by following links from one site to the next.
By working on building links to your Web site from other spidered sites, you’ll eventually receive a visit to your site from one of these spiders and will find your site listed in the most popular search engines. All of this should happen without your ever taking the time to submit your site to a search engine.
It’s also why links are essential to the indexing process.
The more links you gain, the more quickly you will be indexed. In fact, the more links you have and the more search engines begin to recognize you as an authority in your topical area, the more often the search engines will visit you and the more time they will spend digging through your site to make sure they’ve included all of your pages.
In the next installment of this series, I’ll explain why search engines look to links as part of their attempt to replicate human judgement when placing value on a site.

Really? Just half of them? Geeze, get with the times folks. Ok, that might sound a little harsh, but when you realize that social marketing does not simply mean “Digg” and “YouTube” it makes a little more sense. After all, using social marketing simply means going where the people are and attempting to either communicate with them or to get them to communicate with others about you. I find it fairly sad that less than half of all brand marketers have realized this yet.
According to new research released by Jupiter Media, just 38% of brand marketers claim to have used social marketing tactics last year. Thus, the jump to 48% this year is fairly significant.
One of the reasons cited was that 30% of people surveyed claim that they trust another person’s opinion while just 10% of people claim that they trust an advertisement.
Wait, what now?
This is a surprise?
Really?
The only surprise to me is that the number of people that trust their contemporaries is ONLY three times higher than the number of people that trust ads.
So let’s set the record straight once and for all.
Hey all you brand marketers! This social media thing? It’s like word-of-mouth, but…you know…online…using new technology and stuff?
Yeah…use it. You should have been using it all along.
